Confirmation of Payee
Confirmation of Payee (or “CoP”) ensures that your payment goes to a verified account with a name that matches. This helps reduce misdirected payments and ensures that payments are sent/received from the correct designated account. CoP ensures your payments are safe and secure and better protected from potential fraudsters and scammers.
We are excited to introduce ‘Confirmation of Payee’ for incoming payments to Butterfield.
This means the bank sending the outgoing amount can verify and check all Butterfield accounts in Guernsey and Jersey (as long as the Bank is set up to provide CoP for its outgoing payments.)
CoP for outgoing payments on Butterfield Online remains a key milestone on our development roadmap.

If you have forgotten your password, click ‘forgot password’ on our online banking log in page https://ci.butterfieldonline.com/servletcontroller and enter your username and one-time secure code generated through the HID Approve mobile app.

Your account will need to be re-activated to re-link the app. Please call 01534 843 333 to receive a new one-time activation password.
Making a Payment FAQs

On the account summary screen, click the three dots under ‘Actions’ for the account you want to make a payment from.

Select your type of payment. If GBP - Faster Payment option is free of charge up to £250K or for larger GBP payments a CHAPS payment option will incur a fee for any amount transferred, please see our website for our fee schedule - https://www.butterfieldgroup.com/en-je

If the payment is going to an account your have paid previously and saved the details as a regular payee, you will be able to ‘select payee’ and the details will be in the drop down which will auto populate the correct fields required.

If you have not made a payment to this account before, you will need to manually enter the details in each field.

Click ‘proceed’ then ‘confirm’ once you have double checked the details and are happy to proceed.

After clicking confirm, you need to approve the payment using the HID Approve mobile app by swiping along ‘approve’ to complete the transaction.
The rationale is what will show up on the beneficiary account. The narrative is what will show up on your Butterfield account.

You can press on the three dots under ‘action’ on your notice account and press ‘serve notice’.
Log out completely and log back in and re-enter the payment. If this still does not work then please give us a call 01534 843 333 to assist you with the payment.
This may be due to a number of reasons:

The payment has not properly authorised using the HID Approve mobile app.

The payment has been made after our business hours and would be processed the next business working day.

The payment is being processed by the bank.

To view quarterly statements, go to the 3 dots under ‘actions’ and select ‘view statements’.

To view transactions for select periods, go to the 3 dots under ‘actions’ and select ‘transaction history’.
