Alan became Managing Director for Butterfield's Guernsey office in December 2022. He joined Butterfield in 2007 as Head of Finance and was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited in 2016. His role was further extended to include the wider Channel Islands and UK businesses and in May 2021 he was appointed an Executive Director of Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited. Prior to joining Butterfield, Alan has worked with two major UK Finance institutions both in the UK and the Channel Islands, and a large UK based Life Assurance company. At Butterfield, Alan is responsible for our Guernsey banking business, working closely with our team in Jersey, to provide relationship-led banking services to our local communities. Alan holds a BA in Accounting and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
In 2021 Jacob joined our Guernsey office as the Chief Commercial Officer. He is responsible for the client-facing business, including the development of new products as we continue to grow the business. Jacob joined the Butterfield Group in 2019 as VP, Jurisdictional Efficiency, looking at our client focused processes on a global basis. Prior to joining Butterfield, Jacob was a Partner at Campion Willcocks Compliance, a risk & compliance consultancy. He has also worked for KPMG in the UK, holding several roles including leading their Anti-Bribery and Corruption service for Banks. He started his career in corporate intelligence, advising companies doing business across the EMEA region. Jacob holds a MA in Modern History from University of Oxford and a MSc in History of International Relations from London School of Economics.
Edward Jones
Ed joined Butterfield in 2017 bringing with him over 17 years’ experience within the finance industry. In his position as Head of Lending, Channel Islands, Ed manages our lending and credit operations team driving forward our credit offering, including our local mortgages, to our clients. Prior to joining Butterfield, Ed worked at DNB Bank ASA, where he gained international experience as Head of Corporate Lending in Shanghai and Head of the International Banking Desk in London. His role at Butterfield is varied, with his wealth of experience contributing towards keeping consistency for Butterfield's credit and operational risk function. Ed aims to support sound business growth ensuring our clients receive a flawless service when using our credit facilities. He holds an Applied Diploma in Corporate Banking from The London Institute of Banking and Finance.
Alan Bennalick
Alan Bennalick is the Vice President of Client Relationships for Butterfield in Guernsey. In his current role, Alan leads our local banking team, dealing with our institutional and private clients.
Alan joined Butterfield as part of the ABN AMRO Channel Islands acquisition in 2019, bringing with him nearly 30 years of experience in the banking sector. He began his career in retail banking in Guernsey, before joining ABN Amro and looking after a portfolio of institutional and private clients.
Alan holds professional diplomas in Financial Services Management and Level 6 Strategic Management and Innovation in Banking from The London Institute of Banking and Finance.
Nigel has worked within the investment industry since 1995, providing discretionary investment management services to institutions, trusts and private clients. Having joined Butterfield in 2005 as a senior investment manager, he has held the position of VP, Investment Strategy and most recently, was appointed Head of Asset Management for the Channel Island business in 2023.
In his role, Nigel is responsible for all aspects of the investment business in the Channel Islands. He has extensive experience in the management of investment portfolios, as well as the formulation of global investment strategy. He is the co-chairman of Butterfield’s Investment Committee, which is charged with the formulation of ongoing investment strategy. Nigel is a member of Butterfield Guernsey’s Asset and Liability Committee and he is Director of Butterfield Money Market Fund Limited, Butterfield US$ Bond Fund Limited, Butterfield Select Fund Limited and Butterfield Select Invest Fund Limited.
Nigel is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the Securities Institute Diploma (SID) qualification.
In 2021 Darragh was appointed Vice President, Asset Management responsible for heading up the department, driving strategic direction and delivering future growth. Previously Darragh has held progressively senior roles in the Bank, joining Butterfield Bank in 2000 as an administrator in our investment team, progressing to Head of European Dealing and Middle Office in 2013. He was appointed Head of Middle Office in 2016 and was promoted to Vice President in 2018. In 2019, Darragh joined the integration team that worked on the integration of the ABN AMRO (Channel Islands) Limited business into the Bank. Darragh holds a BSc Hons degree from Cardiff University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.
Stefano is responsible for the business development of the Guernsey banking business, where he implements his knowledge of Fiduciary, Credit and Investment Services, Banking, Safe Custody and Treasury. Stefano joined the Butterfield team in 2011. Prior to this, he spent 10 years with Deutsche Bank where he progressed to heading up the Guernsey FIM team for the business. Stefano has obtained the CISI Private Client Investment Advice and Management(RDR level 6), the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management, Cemap, CFA Investment Management Certificate, ACI Certificate and Banking Institute Foundation Course.
James Olliver
James has worked in the Guernsey Finance industry since 2002, initially starting at MeesPierson Reeds in various operational roles over a 4-year period before moving and working for over 10 years at Credit Suisse focusing on Relationship Management of a portfolio of international clients. During this time, he was lucky enough to work and train at Credit Suisse Head Office in Zurich.
Subsequent to this he moved to ABN AMRO in 2017, initially as an Account Manager in the Financial Intermediaries Team before moving to be a Relationship Manager in the Private Client Team, looking after a portfolio of local and international clients.
At Butterfield he started as a Private Client Relationship Manager before taking on his new role as Personal and Premium Banking Lead, leading the local banking team and looking to growing our local markets client base.

Tony has over 25 years of experience in Stockbroking and Investment Management and joined Butterfield Bank (Channel Islands) Limited as part of the acquisition of ABN AMRO (Channel Islands) Limited.
With expertise in global equities and multi-asset investing, he is responsible for the management of discretionary portfolios across a diverse range of mandates as well as managing Butterfield’s Multi-Asset Sterling Balanced Fund (MAF).
Tony is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) and SFA Futures & Options qualifications.
Emma has over 15 years of experience in Fund Analysis and Investment Management, beginning her career in London before returning to Guernsey in 2005. Emma joined Butterfield Bank (Channel Islands) Limited as part of the acquisition of ABN AMRO (Channel Islands) Limited.
With extensive experience in fund and investment analysis, Emma is responsible for the management of discretionary portfolios across a diverse range of mandates as well as managing Butterfield’s Multi-Asset Sterling Balanced Fund (MAF).
Emma is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the CISI Diploma, the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing and a Statement of Professional Standing Certificate.
Carl has over 12 years of experience in financial services having joined Butterfield in 2011, after graduating from the University of Warwick with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Carl joined Butterfield’s Asset Management department as a Securities Dealer in 2012 responsible for executing trade orders on behalf of the Bank’s clients. Carl transitioned to his current role as Investment Manager in 2019 responsible for the managing of discretionary clients’ investment portfolios, contributing to the Group’s portfolio construction process, and for implementing the global investment committee’s strategy.
Carl is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) and the Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) qualifications.
Charles joined the group in 2008, after spending 9 years with one of the leading stockbrokers incorporated in the Channel Islands.
With responsibility for assisting and supporting the Investment Managers in Guernsey, Charles provides vital support in the management of our discretionary investment clients and continues to build his knowledge through practical and professional development furthering his position as an integral part of our team.
Charles is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) qualifications.
Aidan joined Butterfield in 2021 after graduating with a Master of Arts in Economics and Finance from Heriot Watt University. Initially as part of the Summer Internship programme before joining the Asset Management team.
Aidan is responsible for assisting the Investment Managers with the management of discretionary portfolios as well as providing support on Butterfield’s Multi-Asset Sterling Balanced Fund (MAF).
Aidan is an Associate Member of the CISI and holds the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD).
James is the Deputy to the Head of Institutional Custody, managing day to day operations of the department with particular emphasis on optimum efficiency, cost control, the identification and implementation of appropriate controls to mitigate all risk and for the personal development of all staff. James joined Butterfield in 2019 as part of ABN acquisition having over 30 years’ experience in the Finance Industry, with 18 years working within the Custodian Trustee/Institution Custody departments at RBC, ABN and BBGL.
Teresa is responsible for the servicing of Institutional Clients through their various Administrators and Investment Managers. She ensures high level of service to the accounts in regards to the processing of trades, payments, corporate actions, and any other operational process which may be needed to provide this. Teresa joined ABN AMRO (Guernsey) Limited (previously Meespierson / Fortis) in 2003 until the purchase by / and integration of Butterfield Bank. Having completed her studies at St Sampsons Secondary School, Teresa joined the financial sector in the position of a Junior Filing Clerk and has stayed within the industry now for over 30 years. Teresa has attained the ACSI qualification by studying through the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI)
Andy McNairn
Andy is a Senior Institutional Custody Officer within the Institutional Custody department at Butterfield. His responsibility is to look after all requests from investment companies who have their portfolios in Butterfields custody, handling all of their day to day activities while ensuring local regulations and guidelines are met. Andy joined the Butterfield Institutional Custody team in June 2021 after working in the finance industry for 13 years in banking and custody roles.
Stuart Mauger
Stuart joined Butterfield in Guernsey in May 2024 as the lead for Corporate & Institutional Business Development. Prior to this, Stuart spent 22 years with RBC Guernsey focusing on the Institutional Funds and External Asset Manager/Multi Family Office segments.
His wealth of experience is underpinned by time in Hong Kong with Bermuda Trust Far East and Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, where he worked with dynamic multi-cultural teams across Asia. Stuart holds an Economics degree from the University of Bristol, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and has a STEP Diploma in International Trust Management.

Sean is an experienced Relationship Manager responsible for the development of a portfolio of regulated financial intermediaries. His role encompasses the promotion of the bank’s wide range of wealth management solutions to these clients and the structures they administer. Sean joined Butterfield in 2019, following the acquisition of ABN AMRO’s local business and manages the intermediary team in Guernsey. With 30 years of Channel Islands Wealth Management experience, Sean has developed technical expertise in banking, credit, trust and investments. Sean is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
Kelly works close relationships with key intermediaries by understanding their business and onward client specific needs and delivering an exceptional client service. Kelly joined the Butterfield team in October 2018, following the acquisition of ABN AMRO. During Kelly’s 20-year + financial services career in Guernsey she worked at the Royal Bank of Canada within the Investment Management Team and the Corporate & Institutional Team dealing with Institutional & Multi-Family Office Clients. Kelly has been a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment since 2016, holding both of the CISI’s Level 4 qualifications of the International Certificate in Advanced Wealth Management and the Diploma in Investment Advice, along with a Managing Cyber Security qualification (CISI), the STEP certificate in International Trust Management and the ICA Certificate in Anti Money Laundering.
With over 30 years’ worth of financial industry experience, Mike is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of clients across Guernsey, Jersey, Switzerland and Malta within the Banks Financial Intermediaries Client Relationship Management Team. Mike ensures that clients receive the best service and attention from the bank, whilst delivering new ideas and improvements to the experience, with the aim to become the clients chosen service provider. Mike joined the Butterfield team in 2019, following the acquisition of ABN AMRO. Prior to this, Mike worked in a local retail bank in a variety of roles including Global Custody, Client Services and Treasury. Mike is also an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
Tom has worked in the finance industry since 1988, he joined Butterfield in October 2018 following their acquisition of Deutsche Bank’s Channel Island businesses. Tom has worked in a variety of roles including, Treasury, Private Banking, cash management, Operations, Custody and Fiduciary banking, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Southampton University and the London Institute of Financial Services Diploma in Financial Services Management. In recent years he has worked in client facing roles providing solutions for corporates, captives, trust companies and fund administrators in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man developing enduring relationships for the benefit of both bank and client.
Jeremy has worked in the finance industry since 1994, with varying roles in Money Markets, Foreign Exchange, Collective Investments, Wealth Management and client relationships. Having joined Butterfield in 2018 as a Relationship Manager, his day-to-day role includes managing a portfolio of clients from a strategic perspective, demonstrating proactivity and ensuring that the Bank’s stated levels of service are met and maintained. He works to build trusted client relationships through frequent engagement, effective communication and meticulous attention to detail. Jeremy is a Chartered member of the Chartered institute of Securities and Investments, and has been awarded the CISI Investment Advice Diploma (Private Client Advice - Level 5) amongst numerous other qualifications.

David Woodhead heads up the Lending Team at Butterfield Guernsey with responsibility for growing and managing the Bank’s lending book with particular focus on local Guernsey mortgages. With the above in mind David enjoys dealing with local and international clients to enable them to meet their goals through appropriate lending solutions whether they be straightforward or complex. In addition, David and his team work together to maintain relationships with numerous local advisers and introducers. David has over 30 years’ experience in banking with the majority of this connected to lending and client relationship management. David has held a number of senior positions at major UK and global banking groups and was originally at Butterfield between 2008 and 2014 before re-joining to lead the Guernsey lending team in 2022. David is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and holds the CEMAP qualification.
Chantal is responsible for dealing with all aspects of both the new and existing credit applications and providing support to the bank’s relationship managers. Chantal possesses an in-depth knowledge of credit risk appraisal, structuring techniques in onshore and offshore environments together with interpretation of financial statements and cash flow analysis techniques. Chantal joined the Butterfield team in March 2019 and throughout her 30 years’ worth of banking experience, she has worked within a variety of roles within the Guernsey banking industry. Chantal holds a Banking Certificate from the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a CeMap from the London Institute of Banking & Finance.
Jason joined Butterfield in May 2023 and has been working in the banking and finance industry since 2018. Jason has extensive and varied experience in Customer Service and Sales roles; most recently at Barclays where he spent almost 5 years providing lending solutions to the Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man property market. As a Lending Specialist, Jason is assisting local client’s with mortgage solutions ranging from first time buyers and re-mortgages to more bespoke lending solutions. Jason holds the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP).
Kate works within the Lending team, primarily focusing on mortgage applications for both Local and Open Market property in Guernsey. Kate joined the Butterfield team in December 2006 and was a Relationship Manager in the Private Client department, before moving to the Lending team in 2021. Prior to joining Butterfield, Kate worked for two local Estate Agent firms so her knowledge and interest in the Guernsey property market has proven to be very helpful with her current role. Kate holds the CeMap qualification from the London Institute of Banking and Finance.

Vita has worked in the Guernsey Finance industry since 2013. Initially starting at HSBC Bank plc as a CDD Remediation Analyst, then as a Customer Service Officer and a Senior Customer Service Officer. In 2016 Vita was promoted to a Premier Service Manager and was responsible for a large portfolio of local Premier clients. She joined ABN AMRO in November 2017 as an Account Manager within the Private Client team and continued this role with the Butterfield Bank until August 2022 when she became a Relationship Manager for Premium clients . Vita always strives to provide an excellent customer service with every client interaction. She has a Diploma in Retail Banking Conduct of Business and is currently studying towards a CeMap qualification.
Archana Sharma-Petwal
Archana has worked in finance industry since 2015. Archana joined the Butterfield team in February 2021 in Financial Intermediary team after previously holding a position as a relationship manager at Lloyds Bank International. She moved to Premier banking team within Butterfield in January 2023. Her main responsibility is developing business opportunities with new and existing clients by growing strong client relations and acts as the main point of contact for clients. Archana has a certificate in Offshore Banking Practice from the Chartered Banking Institute, graduate from HNB Garhwal University, India in English, Hindi and Sociology BA (Hons) along with a diploma in hospitality management. She holds the CeMap (mortgage) qualification from London Institute Of Banking & Finance, is level 4 Investment qualified (Investment Advice Diploma ) and also a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Jessica has worked in the Guernsey Finance industry since 2006. She began her career with Barclays where she worked for 11 years before moving to Butterfield in 2017. Her experience in various segments include, Retail, Premier, Local Corporates and Fiduciary banking. Jessica broadened her skills whilst working for 16 months as a Lending Specialist in our Channel Island residential mortgage team. Jessica is passionate about building and monitoring relationships with clients, working alongside Senior Managers, ensuring a quality service is provided at all times whilst proactively managing a portfolio of clients.
