Google Pay™ is fast and secure. Designed for Android users, it allows you to conveniently and securely pay for purchases both in-store and online. In-person transactions work the same way as any other contactless/tap transaction. Just place your Android device next to the payment terminal at your favourite merchants, and you’re on your way! With Google Pay™, there is no need for a physical card.
Getting Started with Google Pay™
You first need to download the Google Wallet™ app. Once downloaded, simply add your Butterfield debit and /or credit card(s) and you’re ready to Tap. Pay. Go. Your card details will remain secure at all times as your data is digitally stored and tokenised – meaning your full card information is not stored on your phone and never shared with the Merchant.

Butterfield does not charge a fee for Mobile Banking. However, third party message and data rates may apply from your wireless carrier. Check with your wireless carrier for details regarding your specific wireless plan and any data usage or text message charges that may apply. To be able to use the app, a supported mobile device is needed. For best experience, we recommend using the app with an internet connection. Using your Butterfield Credit or Debit card with the app is subject to terms and conditions which apply once you add your card. To protect your card, keep your device under your personal control at all time. Please ensure that you remove your card(s) from any device before selling, exchanging, or disposing of them. You should also remove your card if you temporarily pass your device to someone else; for example if you pass it to be repaired. If you have lost your device, please report it to the Bank.
Google Pay™ is only available on Android Devices.
To add your Butterfield Credit or Debit card to Google Wallet™, simply download the Google Wallet™ app on the Google Play™ Store. Once downloaded, open the app, select “add to wallet” and then select the “payment card” option. Follow the remaining steps on the screen to register your card.
Tap to pay with Google Pay™ anywhere contactless payments are accepted. All Butterfield Point of Sale (POS) terminals should have Google Pay™ (and other NFC contactless payment methods) enabled, however, you may encounter some incompatibility with older terminals from other Banks.
Yes, Google Pay™ is compatible with E-commerce/online purchases on websites that support this payment method. Just choose Google Pay™ at checkout.
Yes, the maximum limit per transaction is BM $150.00.

No, your card details will always remain secure as your data is digitally stored and tokenised. The sale slip will only show your unique token identification number.

The SMS activation option is not currently available for Bermuda. Cardholders should use the e-mail or call centre options.
e-mail, what should I do?
The alternative method of verification would be to select the “Call your Bank” option to verify/activate your card for Google Pay™ and to update your e-mail with the Bank. When selecting the “Call your Bank” option, please have your online banking access available in preparation for unique security questions.
If you are a secondary cardholder, the verification e-mail and phone number used will be that of the primary cardholder.
