We are seeking a self-starter and results oriented individual to join our Compliance team. The Compliance Analyst is responsible for providing support in ensuring the Group follows recognized best practices in Compliance and Financial Crime with legal and regulatory requirements.
About the Team
The Compliance department ensures that the Bank complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the jurisdictions it operates, and it plays an essential role in helping to preserve the integrity and reputation of our business. It is responsible for establishing regulatory policies within the Bank and monitoring changes in economic conditions and regulatory requirements keeping Butterfield is up-to-date with the latest thinking.
Your responsibilities will include:
- assisting the team with queries from other Business and Compliance teams (e.g. in Halifax, Bermuda and Cayman) related to:
- potential requests for information on suspicious activity, production orders and monitoring orders;
- ongoing reviews of Customer Due Diligence (“CDD”) related to business onboarded by the Group;
- ongoing transaction analysis and surveillance;
- Compliance Assurance Testing (quality assurance / Level Two testing) - undertaking Compliance QA processes as assigned, either remotely through system accesses, or on-the-ground with businesses involved
- assisting with global deployment of mandatory Compliance training requirements, including tracking delinquencies, and liaising with business contacts on outstanding training, providing relevant data to the business to assist in ensuring compliance training is completed
- supporting emerging regulatory framework and assess its impact on risk oversight process and technology tools
- assisting with reviewing and updating Compliance policies and procedures to ensure a sustainable and audited process is in place that reflects day to day processes
- assisting in maintaining the global tracker of Group Compliance policies and procedures, sending reminders to owners in a timely fashion when updates or reviews are required, and updating documents and circulating for commentary as required
- assisting with the training and induction of new members to the team as well as conducting training presentations on various Compliance topics for the Halifax office
Your qualifications and skills include:
- two years’ experience in financial services or a degree-level education with a minimum of one year experience in financial services
- some understanding of the role of Compliance and Risk Management within financial services firms
- good verbal and written communication skills in English
- ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality work product within tight timeframes
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills to facilitate the data collation required for investigations, monitoring and surveillance
- high ethical standards with the ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with absolute discretion
- develop an ability to identify trends and areas of risk and provide written examples of the same to onshore Compliance teams to facilitate discussion and/or reporting
