Meet the team
Nir Sadeh is a Senior Vice President and the Head of Private Banking in Bermuda.
With more than 20 years of experience in wealth management and investment banking, Nir is responsible for leading the strategic direction, development and delivery of our Private Banking services including management oversight of our experienced team of Private Bankers and support staff.
Prior to joining Butterfield in 2008, Nir was SVP, Head of Private Banking at Capital G Bank (now Clarien Bank) Bermuda. Before joining Capital G, Nir held various investment banking positions with financial institutions in the UK and Bermuda.
Nir received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Western Ontario at London, Canada, majoring in Business and Political Science.
Dianne Mcleod-Blais is a Vice President and Sr. Wealth Advisor in charge of our dedicated Financial Planning and Wealth Advisory team that sits within Private Banking. She has over 25 years of experience in financial planning and wealth management for international clients.
Prior to joining Butterfield, Dianne was the Executive Vice President, Financial Planning and Investments for Barrington Investments Limited (Bermuda). Before joining Barrington, she held various wealth management positions with financial institutions in Canada.
Dianne earned her Certified Financial Planner designation (Canadian Institute of Financial Planning) in 1999 and obtained her Masters in Financial Services from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Dianne is also an Elder Planning Counselor (Canadian Initiative for Elder Planning Studies), a Certified International Wealth Manager (Canadian Securities Institute), and a Fellow of both the Canadian Securities Institute and the Institute of Canadian Bankers.
Sam Ward is a Vice President, Private Banker with 30+ years of international wealth management experience. He is familiar with both domestic and international clients, having provided strategic financial advice to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients and institutions including Trust Companies and Captives.
Before joining Butterfield, Sam started his career in London with Deutsche Bank where he was a Unit Trust Trader. He moved to Canada in 2000 to be a stockbroker with ScotiaMcLeod before arriving in Bermuda for the first time in 2006 as a Private Banker for HSBC. In 2015, Sam moved back to the UK and worked as a Private Banker for RBC and HSBC before returning to Bermuda in 2022.
Sam is an active member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Sharon Smith is the Vice President of Credit within our Private Banking team. She specialises in managing the credit portfolios of our high-net-worth clients, as well as using her over 20-years’ experience to provide guidance to our credit team on deal structures and credit facility reviews.
Prior to joining Butterfield, Sharon worked at Clarien Bank, gaining experience in lending, corporate banking and asset remediation. She first began work at Butterfield in 2001 and we were delighted to welcome her back in 2022.
Monique Frederick
Monique has more than 20 years of experience in the finance industry, with a focus on delivering discretionary management, advisory and brokerage services to private individuals, family offices and institutional clients. She is a member of our Global Investment Committee and the Cayman Management Committee. Prior to joining Butterfield, Monique worked at Barclays and RBC Dominion Securities. Monique is a CFA charterholder and a qualified Financial Risk Manager (FRM). She has previously served as a director and President of the CFA Society Cayman Islands and is a 100 Women in Finance Main Committee member.
Sadiq Mohammed is an AVP, Private Banker with more than 15 years of experience assisting and managing high-net-worth clients, having been with Butterfield since 2016.
Prior to joining Butterfield, Sadiq worked as a financial planner and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Business and Social Science respectively. Sadiq is an accredited Personal Financial Planner (PFP) having completed a Personal Financial Planning designation from the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI).
Dwight Merren is an AVP, Private Banker with over 25 years of experience in financial services, including captive insurance management, regulation and international banking. In his current role, he works with high-net-worth individuals, wealth managers and estate practitioners, providing guidance and support services to meet his clients’ financial and estate planning needs.
Prior to joining Butterfield, Dwight served as Deputy Head of CIMA’s Insurance Supervision Division and later became a Relationship Manager at HSBC, focusing on captives, funds and international corporate clients.
Dwight holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in International Finance.
Paul West is our Relationship Manager Lead for Private Clients in Guernsey and is responsible for managing our Private Client team across the Channel Islands. In addition to day-to-day management of the team, Paul assists clients directly with financial planning and wealth management.
Paul joined the Butterfield team following the acquisition of ABN AMRO Channel Islands in 2019, where he worked for 3 years. Throughout his 34-year banking career, the last 24 years of which have been in Guernsey, he has occupied Personal and Corporate banking positions at Lloyds, HSBC and Kleinwort Benson.
Paul holds an ACSI CISI Investment Advice Diploma.
