Reporting to the Managing Director, Butterfield Trust (Bermuda) Limited, the Vice President, Trust Services (Trust Advisor) is responsible for ensuring international tax compliance including FATCA and CRS, fiduciary risk and operational processes and procedures, interacting with clients and clients’ advisors and supporting other relationship managers on matters of particular technical fiduciary complexity; and assisting with complex new business proposals.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing advice and recommendations to the MD and undertaking specific analysis and projects relating to fiduciary risk and control processes aligned with Butterfield’s strategy and policies
- Leading all aspects of the analysis and programmes in respect of international tax compliance; including US FATCA and CRS
- Liaising with other Butterfield personnel to ensure consistency of approach across trust offices in respect of FATCA, CRS and other aspects of tax compliance
- Interacting effectively with clients and clients’ advisors on matters of technical fiduciary complexity and contributing to the development of those client relationships
- Assisting with technical assessment of complex new business proposals
- Providing technical expertise relating to trust litigation as requested by the MD
- Providing guidance, technical training and mentoring of staff members as requested by the MD
Your qualifications and skills include:
- At least 15 years’ experience with a major offshore international financial institution in the areas of trust and company management
- Must hold a relevant professional qualification, e.g., STEP Membership, CA, ACCA, ACIB (Trustee) Diploma
- Relevant technical skills including extensive experience in trust law, tax, administration and the fiduciary risk environment, coupled with strong communication skills (both oral and written)
- In-depth knowledge of US FATCA and CRS as it relates to fiduciary strictures
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in UHNW client relationships and advisory relationships in a fiduciary business context
- Extensive experience of the international trust industry, including the key international trust centres and dealing with clients from global markets including Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, UK (both domestic and non-domestic), US, Canada and Western Europe
- Wide range of knowledge in a number of specialist areas, including risk and regulatory requirements, legal, tax, accounting, and investments (in a fiduciary context)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
