Assistant Vice President, Operational Risk Manager
The AVP, Operational Risk Manager will be responsible for supporting the successful execution of the Bank’s Operational Risk Management programmes, with particular focus on Global Business Continuity Management (BCM), and the Risk and Control Self-Assessment Programme (RCSA).
About the Team
Operational Risk works across the Group using risk assessments to identify and measure the risks the Bank incurs in the delivery of its products and services and the effectiveness of the controls we use to manage those risks. The team reports on the identified risks and remedial actions. The team is also responsible for Butterfield’s business continuity planning and ensures that the business is up and running as quickly as possible after an event.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining a robust business continuity framework and strategies that aligns with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to identify critical business processes to complete Business Impact Assessments, and establish recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
- Maintaining and updating crisis management protocols, incident response procedures and conduct training, as well as the creation of employee awareness regarding business continuity processes.
- Enhancing and maintaining the Group’s Business Continuity Management programme, working with and supporting all Butterfield jurisdictions.
- Designing and coordinating global business continuity validation, including regular testing of business continuity plans to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintaining a comprehensive Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) programme, including methodologies, guidelines, and reporting frameworks.
- Facilitating quarterly RCSA assessments, working closely with process owners and subject matter experts to evaluate risks and controls' effectiveness.
- Analysing assessment results, controlling weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and gaps, and providing recommendations for control enhancements and risk mitigation.
- Providing regular reporting on the status of the Bank’s BCM, RCSA, risk and internal control profile, Key Risk Indicators and periodic performance against declared risk appetites.
- Leading incident management and root cause analysis efforts for assigned areas to identify the underlying causes of operational incidents, and supporting the business to develop preventive measures.
- Undertaking ad hoc projects, global initiatives and programmes at the request of senior management, to strengthen the overall operational risk framework and align jurisdictional efforts.
- Assisting with third party risk management processes to include outsourcing and vendor management activities.
Your qualifications and skills include:
- Post-secondary degree in Business or Risk Management related field; professional qualification in risk management or business continuity management preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in an Operational Risk or Business Continuity Management role, preferably in a similar industry or regulated environment.
- Sound understanding of internal control frameworks, including design and evaluation of controls.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and negotiation skills.
- Ability to motivate teams and to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task, handle competing priorities, and follow through on commitments
